Congress on Monday released a combined list of six candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand. The party announced four candidates for the Maharashtra polls, while two others were named for the Jharkhand elections.

In Maharashtra, the Congress fielded Heera Devasi against the Assembly Speaker and BJP candidate Rahul Narvekar from the Colaba seat. Other names on the list include:  Sajid Khan Mannan Khan from Akola West, Chetan Narote from Solapur City Central, and Madhurimaraje Malojiraje Chhatrapati from Kolhapur North. Chhatrapati has been named in place of Rajesg Bharat Latkar.

Congress had released its fourth list of 14 candidates on Sunday, October 27. With today's announcement, the party has now declared a total of 102 candidates.

The Maharashtra Assembly elections are scheduled to held in a single phase on November 20, with the counting of votes on November 23.

In Jharkhand, the Congress named Sweta Singh from Bokaro and Ajay Dubey from Dhanbad. Earlier today, Congress’s working president in Jharkhand, Manas Sinha, quit the party and joined the Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party after he did not get a ticket from the Garhwa district’s Bhawnathpur seat. The seat was given to the JMM as part of its seat sharing deal with the Congress.

He was inducted into the party by BJP's working president Ravindra Ray in the presence of party’s co-in-charge for the state and Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The Jharkhand Assembly polls will be held in two phases on November on November 13 and 20. The results will be announced along with Maharashtra on November 23. The ruling alliance led by Hemant Soren's Jharkhand Mukti Morcha had won 47 seats and formed the government in 2019.
