Rumours of alliance came forth considering the performance by the two parties in 2014 elections where both parties failed to bag even one seat, and Bharatiya Janta Party swept all 7 seats.
Earlier Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday announced the list of six candidates it would be fielding from Delhi in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The announcement was made by Delhi AAP convenor Gopal Rai, who also said that the party will not be entering into an alliance with the Congress.
The party said it will field Atishi from East Delhi, Raghav Chaddha from South Delhi, Pankaj Gupta from Chandni Chowk, Dilip Pandey from North East Delhi, Gugan Singh from North West Delhi and Brajesh Goel from the New Delhi Lok Sabha seat. The seventh and the final seat, West Delhi, is still being discussed and will be announced later, senior party leader Gopal Rai said at a press conference.
AAP had also declared that there will be no grand alliance or "mahagathbandhan" with the Congress in Delhi for the Lok Sabha elections. "Sheila Dikshit has said a straight no to alliance. Rahul Gandhi also said not possible... Aam Aadmi Party wanted the alliance, but the Congress is not ready" Gopal Rai said.
