A ruckus erupted during a rally of BJP leader Navneet Rana in Amravati on Saturday night. She has filed a complaint at a local police station alleging that the accused made lewd gestures and hooted at the rally. The BJP leader was campaigning in Khallar for party candidate Ramesh Bundile, contesting the Maharashtra elections from Daryapur Assembly Constituency.
A mob tried to throw chairs at Rana, but her security staff saved her. It is reported that Yuva Swabhiman Party's Yuva District Chief and some other office bearers were injured in the attack.
"We were campaigning peacefully in Khallar. But during my speech, some people started making lewd gestures and hooting. I did not react. Then they started raising Allahu Akbar slogans. When party supporters asked them not to use slang for me, they started throwing chairs," Rana said.
Navneet Rana Stormed Police Station
After the attack, Navneet Rana and her supporters stormed the police station. Two hours later, the Khallar police filed a complaint and registered cases against 30 to 40 people. But Navneet Rana has warned that the accused should be arrested by 10 am or else all the Hindus of Amravati district will enter the police station. The identity of the accused is being ascertained on the basis of the video from the scene.
"During the rally, a dispute broke out between two groups. We have registered a case on the complaint of Navneet Rana. The situation is now under control. A police checkpoint has been set up in the village. We request the citizens to not believe in any kind of rumours. Further investigation is underway," Inspector (Crime Branch) Rural Amravati, Kiran Wankhade, said.
