The Election Commission of India (ECI) will announce the schedule for the Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram, Rajasthan, and Telangana Legislative Assembly elections today. The poll panel will announce the election schedule at around 12 noon.
Madhya Pradesh has 230 constituencies, with the Congress party securing 114 seats in the 2018 Assembly elections, while the Bharatiya Janata Party, which has been in power for 15 years, gained just 109 seats. However, the Congress could not maintain its grip on power for much longer, and the elected Chief Minister Kamal Nath, was forced to resign after just 15 months. Shivraj Singh Chauhan, the leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party, accepted the role and is presently serving the state.
Mizoram's legislative assembly's term finishes on December 17 this year. The Mizo National Front rules the northeastern state.
The tenure of Telangana, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan legislative assemblies expire on separate days in January of next year.
While the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) governs Telangana, the BJP is ruling Madhya Pradesh. The Congress party governs in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan.
