The Congress on Sunday announced six candidates for the upcoming bypolls in Assam and Madhya Pradesh, which are scheduled next month. 


The bypolls are scheduled to be held on November 13 in Dholai (SC), Sidli (ST), Bongaigaon, Behali and Samaguri in Assam, which became vacant after the representatives won in the recent Lok Sabha elections. The party also announced the candidates for the Vijaypur and Budhni asembly seats in Madhya Pradesh.

"Congress President Shri @kharge has approved the proposals to nominate the following members as party candidates for the bye-elections to the Legislative Assemblies of Assam and Madhya Pradesh," the party said in a post on X on Sunday.






The grand-old-party named Dhrubajyoti Purakayastha for Dholai seat, Sanjib Warle for Sidli, Brajenjit Sinha for the Bongaigaon seat and Tanzil Hussain for Samaguri seat.


Out of the five seats, only Samaguri was previously held by Congress leader Rakibul Hussain, whose son Tanzil has been named as the party's candidate.


The Congress left the Behali seat for the united opposition alliance, which has nominated Bibek Das of CPI(ML).


The party also announced candidates for two seats in Madhya Pradesh, naming Mukesh Malhotra from Vijaypur and Rajkumar Patel from Budhni seat. 


Meanwhile in Assam, the BJP on Saturday released the names of its three candidates for the bypolls -- Nihar Ranjan Das (Dholai), Diganta Ghatowar (Behali) and Diplu Ranjan Sarma (Samaguri).


Bongaigaon and Sidli will be contested by BJP's allies AGP and UPPL, respectively, and the names of the candidates are yet to be announced. Polling is scheduled for November 13, with results will be announced on November 23.
