AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Monday said that the Delhi government would not allow the Rohingya refugees to settle in the national capital.
Hitting out at the BJP, the former Delhi Chief Minister said that the AAP government will not allow the BJP to give flats, jobs and the rights of the people in the capital to the Rohingyas.
"We will not allow BJP to settle Rohingyas in Delhi under any circumstances. We will not allow BJP to give the flats, employment and facilities of the poor of Delhi to the Rohingyas under any circumstances," Kejriwal said in a post on X.
Kejriwal's statement comes shortly after Delhi CM Atishi claimed that the BJP leaders are settling Rohingya refugees in Delhi after facilitating their entry from Bangladesh into Delhi and providing them with EWS flats and facilities meant for the people of Delhi.
"On one side, the BJP brings Rohingyas to Delhi by facilitating their crossing from Bangladesh and provides them with EWS flats and facilities meant for the people of Delhi. On the other side, the Aam Aadmi Party's Delhi government is taking every possible step to ensure that the rights of Delhiites are not given to Rohingyas. Today, the Delhi government's Education Department has issued strict orders that no Rohingya should be admitted to government schools in Delhi. We will not let the rights of Delhiites be taken away!" Atishi said.
The remarks from AAP leaders comes as Delhi gears up for Assembly Elections due in February next year and the Rohingya issue has repeatedly been a centre of contention between the AAP and the BJP.
The BJP had earlier approached the Election Commission alleging that these illegal immigrants have been registered as voters in Delhi "at the behest of AAP".
