Senior BJP leader Anil Vij was seen singing a song, 'Main zindagi ka saath nibhata chala gaya', while talking to reporters during the counting of votes for the 90-member Haryana Assembly on Tuesday.






Vij is trailing by a margin of 1,199 votes after the second round of counting, as per the latest EC data. Vij, who also served as the state’s home minister, lost the seat as a BJP candidate in 1991. He fought again in 1996 and 2000 as an Independent candidate, winning both elections.


In 2005, Anil Vij lost the seat to Congress and later returned to the BJP to fight the elections He won the Ambala Cantt seat in 2009, 2014 and in 2019 on the BJP ticket.


Vij is contesting the elections against Independent rebel Chitra Sarwara and Congress's Parvinder Pal Pari in the assembly elections. Anil Vij has been a prominent figure in Haryana politics for decades. He has served as a cabinet minister in the state government multiple times, handling key portfolios like health and medical education.


Reacting to early counting trends, Vij said, "We can see the people of Haryana teaching a lesson to Congress. In the morning, they (Congress) opened their 'Jhooth ki dukaan'...Within Congress, there are people who want Hooda to lose, and they were the ones who were bursting crackers..."


He said Congress workers were celebrating because they didn't want Deepender Singh Hooda to win the elections. While talking to the media, he said, "BJP is leading in the elections and they (Congress) are celebrating because many people in the Congress party want Bhupinder Singh Hooda to lose the elections."
