The Communist Party of India (CPI) has announced its decision to contest from 14 Assembly constituencies and two Lok Sabha seats. The Left parties have concluded preliminary discussions with the Congress regarding seat-sharing arrangements.

While details of the agreement are yet to be finalized, sources indicate that both parties are moving closer to reaching a consensus.

The CPI is contemplating fielding its candidates from a strategic array of constituencies across Andhra Pradesh. Among the potential Assembly seats under consideration are Vijayawada (West), Polavaram, Guntur (East), Tirupati, Kadapa, Visakhapatnam (West), Dhone, Razole, Yerragondapalem, Aluru, Gadwal, Palasa, and Railway Kodur or Rajampet.

Andhra Pradesh Election

The upcoming election in Andhra Pradesh is a three-faced battle between Congress-led by YS Sharmila, Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) and TDP-BJP-Janasena alliance. However, many speculate that the election will be a straight contest between YSRCP and the trio alliance.

In 2019, YSR Congress Party delivered a crushing blow to Chandrababu Naidu-led Telugu Desam Party (TDP) by securing victory in 151 seats, whereas the ruling TDP managed to win only 23 seats.

In 2014 Assembly elections, TDP had secured 102 Assembly seats. However, while TDP had contested the 2014 election in alliance with BJP, it chose to go solo in the 2019 general elections. The decision of TDP ultimately led to a significant defeat for the party.

For 2024 elections as per the seat-sharing formula, BJP is slated to contest six Lok Sabha seats and 10 Assembly seats. The TDP has secured rights to vie for 17 parliamentary seats and 144 state assembly seats. Additionally, under the agreement, Pawan Kalyan’s Jana Sena Party will contest two Lok Sabha seats and 21 Assembly seats.

The state is set to vote in Assembly elections on May 13, 2024 and the counting of votes will take place on June 4, 2024.
