New Delhi: Lashing out at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the reported attack on the team of National Investigation Agency (NIA) officials in Bhupatinagar last week, Union Home Minister Amit Shah accused her of “trying to save the culprits” and also alleged the TMC supremo was “misleading the people” on CAA and indulging in vote bank politics.

Addressing an election rally in Balurghat, Amit Shah said, “There was a bomb blast in Bhupatinagar in 2022, which claimed the lives of three people. I want to ask you whether those who carried out the blasts should be put behind bars or not? The High Court handed over the investigation to the NIA and Mamata Didi wants to save the culprits. She also registered a case against the NIA...The whole country has moved ahead on the path of development but our Bengal is lagging behind.”

Launching a blistering attack on CM Banerjee over the incidents in Sandeshkhali where the women accused TMC strongman Sheikh Shahjahan of sexual abuse and land grab, Shah said it was a matter of shame that despite being a woman, Banerjee “tried to protect the culprits."

"You are a woman chief minister and you are doing politics over the incidents in Sandeshkhali. This is shameful. For years, atrocities continued right under your nose and when the ED went to arrest TMC goons, they were pelted with stones. To get some votes through appeasement, you are protecting the criminals of Sandeshkhali," PTI quoted Amit Shah as saying.

In a separate rally in Bihar, the Union Home Minister thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for bestowing the country’s highest civilian honour Bharat Ratna on late two-time Bihar Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur, saying “I wish to extend my gratitude to PM Modi for giving Karpoori Thakur his due after a long time. Lalu ji used to reserve high praise for him but never gave him what he deserved. The Congress governments, too, came and went but Thakur continued to be ignored.”

“In 2014, the people of Bihar gave us (BJP-led NDA) 31 out of the 40 seats. In 2019, they gave us 39 out of the 40 seats. This time, I request you to help the NDA win all the 40 seats,” ANI quoted Amit Shah as saying.
