New Delhi: Former JNUSU Vice President Shehla Rashid, who has been campaigning for former JNUSU President Kanhaiya Kumar in Bihar, has recently made a very controversial statement while addressing a public rally on Wednesday. Shehla, who is very active of social media and is known for her anti-government remarks, said that “Government has been leaving the responsibility of saving the ‘religion’ on the poor, whereas, all the wealthy people, both Hindu and Muslims together sit in hotels and eat beef and consume liquor.” Shehla has been consistently campaigning for Kanhaiya Kumar, who is contesting the Lok Sabha elections from Begusarai seat in Bihar on CPI ticket. Shehla has been holding several public meetings in nooks and corners and has been seeking votes for Kanhaiya. The statements were made by Shehla at Birniya Bazaar of Teghda assembly seat region. Kanhaiya Kumar has been pitted against Union Minister and BJP leader Giriraj Singh. Not just Rashid, even Bollywood actor Shabana Azmi came in Kumar’s support and addressed a poll meeting in Begusarai, seeking votes for Kanhaiya. While addressing the crowd, Azmi took on BJP and said, "It did not take much time for them (BJP) to get exposed, for the people to realise that their promises were just jumlas (rhetoric). So, they are back to their old game of pitting Hindus against Muslims." The national award winner, known for her social activism, recalled the association of her father, poet Kaifi Azmi, with the Communist Party of India (CPI) and said, "For him, his membership card used to be the most prized possession. He always kept it in his pocket."
