The Bharatiya Janata Party-led Centre’s decision to slash gas cylinder prices by Rupees 200 might help the saffron party towards its goal for a consecutive third term in the country. On Tuesday, the Union government announced reducing the price of domestic cooking gas cylinders by Rs 200 per unit, a decision hailed by the leaders of the ruling BJP. As per an ABP CVoter Snap Poll, around 50 per cent respondents agreed that the decision would help the incumbent party in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha polls while around 40 per cent see it otherwise.

Among the voters that agreed with the decision, around 59 per cent support the NDA while 36.4 per cent pitch for the Opposition. However, around 30 per cent voters who support ruling NDA don’t agree that the decision would help them in the upcoming 2024 polls and 55 per cent respondents backing Opposition are also of the same opinion.

Around 9 per cent of respondents did not side chose not to be on either side.

The Centre’s decision was met with criticism from the Opposition which termed the price slash “insufficient” as people are grappling with high fuel rates and noted that a lot of money is being spent on the G20 summit.

Among the Opposition parties who took the decision with a pinch of salt were Congress, Trinamool Congress, Jharkhand Congress, All India Majlis e Ittehadul Muslimeen and others.

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee termed the move as an impact of the INDIA opposition alliance.

"This is not enough, prices should have been reduced more. Even today, it is very expensive for the poor when the fuel prices are not lowering," said AIMIM's Asaduddin Owaisi.
