New Delhi: With the high-octane Assembly elections to five states done and dusted, the focus has now shifted to the Lok Sabha polls next year. The state elections, dubbed as semi-final ahead of the 2024 final, ended with a 3-2 scoreline in favour of the BJP as it retained power in Madhya Pradesh, and managed to wrest Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan from Congress.

With the general elections just months away, the BJP-led NDA is riding high on the Modi wave, banking on the charisma and popularity of its biggest poll mascot. On the other hand, the Opposition bloc I.N.D.I.A, even after four crucial meetings, is yet to project their Prime Ministerial face. After the fourth huddle in New Delhi, West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee said she has proposed the name of Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge as the PM face of their alliance. The proposal was also backed by her Delhi counterpart and AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal.

Before the poll bugle is sounded for the 2024 grand finale, ABP, in association with CVoter, conducted an opinion poll to gauge the public mood on who should the Opposition bloc project as their PM face and the survey threw up mixed results.

Among the people surveyed, interestingly enough, most opted for Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, while Mamata Banerjee had the least number of voters speaking in her favour. The voters’ choice of Gandhi was followed by Arvind Kejriwal and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

Of the people who took part in the survey, 34 per cent voted for Rahul Gandhi, 13 per cent went for Kejriwal, 10 per cent of them said they wanted to see Nitish Kumar as the Opposition bloc’s PM face, while 9 per cent said their choice was Mamata Banerjee. Another 34 per cent of those surveyed said they did not have an opinion on the subject.
