New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday released its fourth list of 12 candidates for the upcoming Chhattisgarh Assembly Elections. So far, the party has announced 45 candidates for the polls to the 90-seat assembly. It declared 10 names in the first list, 12 names in the second, 11 names in the third list, and 12 names in the fourth list.
AAP, which rules Delhi and Goa, is trying to make inroads in Chhattisgarh and other states where polls are due in November this year. While the primary contest is between BJP and Congress, the Aam Aadmi Party is likely to cause damage in vote shares.
Earlier, AAP's national convenor, Arvind Kejriwal, outlined a series of "guarantees" for the electorate. These guarantees include free electricity, monthly `samman rashi' for women, and Rs 3,000 monthly allowance for the unemployed.
Additionally, AAP has promised 24-hour uninterrupted power supply -- free upto 300 units -- to every household, waiver of pending electricity bills till November 2023, Rs 1,000 monthly 'samman rashi' (honorarium) to all women aged above 18 years and free quality education to school children.
AAP government will also provide free and better health treatment to every citizen of Chhattisgarh, mohalla clinics in every village and ward in cities, employment and allowance of Rs 3,000 per month to those unemployed, free pilgrimage for senior citizens, corruption-free Chhattisgarh, Rs 1 crore to the kin of personnel of state police and army jawans (who belong to Chhattisgarh) martyred in the line of duty as `samman rashi' and regularize contractual employees, Kejriwal had said.
In the previous 2018 elections, the Congress secured a resounding victory, capturing 68 seats and forming a comfortable government. The BJP's tally dwindled to 15 seats, while the JCC (J) and the BSP won 5 and 2 seats, respectively. Presently, the Congress holds 71 seats in the assembly. Party leaders have set their sights on a goal of winning 75 seats in the forthcoming elections.
The state will vote in two phases on November 7 and November 17 while the results will be announced on December 3, along with four other states -- Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Mizoram, and Telangana.
