In total 180 cases of alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) have been registered by Delhi Police from January 7 to January 14 in the national capital ahead of the assembly election 2025, an official stated on Wednesday.

In order to uphold law and order, preventive measures led to the arrest of 7,454 individuals under various provisions, including the Excise Act, news agency PTI cites the official statement.

Surveillance around inter-state border checkpoints and crackdowns on illegal activities have been intensified by the police. The statement further read that vigilance towards the smuggling of arms, liquor, and drugs from January 7 to 14 has also increased.

In this period, authorities confiscated 123 illegal firearms, 92 cartridges, 19,881 litres of liquor, and 59.5 kilograms of drugs valued at over Rs 12 crore. Additionally, the police seized Rs 1.13 crore in cash and 37.39 kilograms of silver.

Election Date Announce On January 7

After the Election Commission Of India announced the dates for the crucial Delhi elections on Tuesday (January 7), the Model Code Of Conduct has come into force. Delhi will vote on February 5 and the results will be declared on February 8.

The last date to file the nominations is January 17 and the scrutiny of nominations will be done by January 18. The candidates will be able to withdraw their nominations till January 20.
