Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has announced that his government will oppose the Centre holding competitive exams for jobs in Hindi or English, as reported by PTI. "We will have to oppose the Centre holding competitive exams for jobs in Hindi or English. Exams should be held in the language our children know. I will once again write to PM Narendra Modi to take a relook" said Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah at an event marking the 68th Karnataka Rajyotsava (Karnataka Foundation Day) in Bengaluru.

"These days, I see parents taking their children to English medium private schools. I request parents to take their children to Kannada medium schools. Our government schools also need to improve," he added.

On Tuesday, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah criticised the Karnataka BJP's drought study tour as a "mockery" and accused the party of exploiting the drought situation for their political interests.

Siddaramaiah raised concerns about the delay in the release of central funds and urged BJP leaders to facilitate an appointment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, suggesting that they lack the resolve to engage with him directly.

The BJP has organized 17 teams, led by prominent leaders, including former CM B S Yediyurappa, to visit all 33 districts in the state and evaluate the drought conditions from November 3 to 10.

The party has stated its intent to present a report to the government and intends to request time during the upcoming Assembly session for a debate on the matter.

"The new drought study tour of BJP leaders of Karnataka is a farce. While the ones who should provide drought relief are seated in Delhi, these state BJP leaders are undertaking a drought study tour within the state instead of appealing to their bosses in the union government," Siddaramaiah said in a statement.

"Dear BJP leaders, your very own party's government had sent a team of experts from Delhi to study the drought situation in Karnataka. But now, you are undertaking a tour for the same purpose. Don't you trust your own government's drought study team?" he asked.

The Karnataka government has estimated loss due to the drought to be around Rs 33,770 crore and has requested Rs 17,901 crore relief from the union government.
