UPSC Civil Services Exams: The government has denied that a proposal for the reduction in the maximum age limit of Civil Services Exam is being considered. The current upper age limit for UPSC Civil Services Exam is 32 years for General Category. It is 35 for OBC, and 37 years for SC/ST. The 'recommendations' on upper age limit have always been the bone of contention between the aspirants and the government. It was expected that the Central Government might consider implementing this recommendation as it has been noted that reforms in civil services are a continuous process and several initiatives have been taken in recent years by the present government.


However, now the government has confirmed that it is not considering any proposal to alter the age criteria for the civil services exams."Attention is drawn to media reports about possible reduction in maximum entry age for the Civil Services Examination. It is hereby clarified that there is no such proposal under contemplation of the Government," the notice read.

MoS PMO Dr Jitendra Singh told ANI: “There is no move by Government to alter the age criteria of eligibility to appear in civil service examinations. Reports and speculations should be put to rest.”

This came in the wake of reports suggesting that NITI Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India) which is the premier policy ‘Think Tank’ of the Government of India, had recently recommended in its new report ‘Strategy for New India @ 75’ that the UPSC upper age limit for the civil services should be brought down to 27 years for the general category in a phased manner by 2022-23.

Meanwhile, the UPSC Thursday declared the results of the civil services (main) examination 2018 held in September-October for selection to the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service, Indian Police Service, among other central services. On basis of the results, the successful candidates have qualified for the personality test for selection to the IAS, IFS, IPS and other central services (Group A and Group B), an official statement said.
