Bahraich: Police have initiated an investigation after screenshots of a conversation between two schoolboys, containing allegedly objectionable remarks about each other's religions, surfaced online, sparking tensions on Monday evening, news agency PTI quoted as saying.

A large crowd from the minority community gathered outside the home of one of the children involved, prompting a significant police deployment to manage the situation. Protesters called for the arrest of the student responsible for the offensive comments.

"Two students from different religious backgrounds, attending the same school, exchanged inappropriate messages that included insulting remarks about each other's faiths," said Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural), Pavitra Mohan Tripathi.

"As word spread, the crowd swelled due to the evening timing. A case has been registered, and further legal proceedings are underway," Tripathi added.

Given the festival season, the police have been deployed to maintain peace and order in the area.

An FIR has been filed based on a complaint by Rehmat Ali Hashmi, a resident of Nanpara town, against the child. The charges are filed under sections 298 (uttering words with deliberate intent to wound religious feelings), 302, 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), and 353 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

This incident occurs amid ongoing protests and tensions in Uttar Pradesh, following controversial remarks made by Ghaziabad-based priest Yati Narsinghanand regarding Prophet Mohammed.
