Chennai: Following the arrest of a PSBB school teacher on Tuesday in Chennai on charges of sexual harassment complained by few girl students, the Tamil Nadu government said that it will issue stricter rules for school teachers to keep in check such incidents.


The government has decided to tighten the restrictions on teachers as a whole after the obscene behavior of the teacher of a popular school in Chennai came into notice during an online class.


The meeting is currently being chaired by the Minister of School Education, Anbil Mahesh on forming a separate committee to tackle such incidents in schools and in the area of education.


The state Education Department has also decided to set up a separate committee to handle and investigate sexual abuse cases in view of the increasing number of sex offenders.


Also, the Education Ministry has sent a summon to the Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan, the private school where the accused teacher worked. G. Rajagopalan, 59, used to give business lessons to Class 12 class students. Currently, he is suspended from his job for his sexual misconduct.


Allegations


Another student of the same school had posted a complaint against him on her Instagram page. Apart from this, 30 more girl students have lodged similar complaints.


In the allegation, Rajagopalan has been accused of sending obscene messages to girl students on WhatsApp and taking online classes half-naked which turned evidence against him. It has also been revealed that he has been harassing students by forcing them to make video calls at night and inviting them to go to movies.


Arrest and Police Investigation


Later, he was by Chennai City police and interrogated with the evidence. The investigation revealed that for the past 5 years he has been continuously sending such obscene content to class 11 and 12 students and sharing links of obscene images to them in the class group. Further, in the police investigation, Rajagopalan revealed that there are other teachers like him in school.


The PSBB teacher has been booked under section 12 of the POSCO Act and Sections 67, 67 (a), 354 (a), and 509 of the IT act.
