New Delhi: With the Omicron-led third wave of Covid-19 improving in the country as the daily positivity rate is decreasing, more states will be reopening schools and higher educational institutes from Monday.
In view of the surge in Covid-19 cases, states had decided to shut schools last month. However, the states are now looking to reopen schools. The daily positivity rate was recorded at 7.42 per cent while the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 10.20 per cent, according to the health ministry update on Saturday.
Now, states have started relaxing Covid-related restrictions imposed last month by allowing shops, markets, restaurants, schools, colleges, gyms, yoga centre, offices to restart operations in line with Covid-19 SOPs.
Check states that have reopened schools
Delhi
Schools in Delhi for 9th-12th standard students will reopen from Monday while for nursery to 8th standard students, they will reopen from February 14, news agency ANI reported. The ANI report said that online classes for students will continue.
Uttar Pradesh
The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to reopen schools and colleges from Monday. Schools for classes 9 to 12 and all degree colleges will be resumed from Monday.
Gujarat
The Gujarat government also decided to reopen schools for offline classes for all government, private, and grant-in-aid schools. Classes from 1 to 9 will be reopened from Monday. However, the online classes will also continue.
Kerala
The offline classes for 10, 11, and 12th standards and college students will begin from February 7. Whereas, the offline cases from Class 1 to 9 will begin from February 14.
West Bengal
The state government will be launching an open-air classroom programme Paray Shikshalaya (Neighbourhood Schools) for primary and pre-primary students on February 7, according to ANI report. The para teachers and primary school teachers would be part of the project to provide elementary education to Class 1-5 in an open ground. West Bengal resumed offline classes for classes 8-12 on February 3.
Odisha
Schools for classes 8 to 10, colleges, and universities will reopen in Odisha today. For students of kindergarten to class 7, schools will reopen on February 14. Short-term training and skill development training centres will also reopen from February 7.
Bihar
The Bihar government has decided to reopen physical classes till Standard 8 with 50 per cent attendance and from Classes 9 to 12 with full capacity.
Noting that there was an improvement in the situation, Kumar, as quoted by news agency ANI, said, “In view of the improvement of the pandemic situation, all schools up to class 8th will be open with 50 per cent capacity, and all schools and colleges and coaching institutes belonging to classes 9th and above will open with 100 per cent attendance.”
Other states such as Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Chandigarh, Haryana, Jharkhand, and Uttarakhand have already resumed offline classes from February 1.
