School Holidays In Kashmir: The Kashmir Directorate of School Education has extended the school holidays till March 4 due to ongoing adverse weather conditions in the region. Initially slated to resume classes on March 1 as per DOE order, schools in the valley will now recommence physical sessions on Monday, March 4, following the extended winter break. This extension prioritises the safety and well-being of students and staff amidst potentially challenging weather scenarios in the Kashmir division.
As per the latest directive, both government and private schools in Kashmir will resume classes up to the higher secondary level from March 4. This decision aligns with the advice provided by the Meteorological Department, which anticipates significant snowfall in the valley.
"In view of the Meteorological Department's weather advisory predicting heavy snowfall in the valley, it is hereby ordered that classwork in all government and recognised private schools of the Kashmir Division up to the higher secondary level shall commence on March 4, 2024." the Kashmir School Education Director said in an order.
Following a progressive three-month winter break, announced from November 28 to February 29 for students in primary through upper secondary classes, schools were scheduled to resume routine class work. However, while teaching staff resumed duties from February 21, physical classes were set to resume from March 1, 2024.
Notably, certain areas, particularly in the higher regions of North, Central, and South Kashmir, as well as the Pir Panjal range in the Jammu division, are forecasted to experience significant to extremely heavy snowfall on March 1 and 2, 2024.
“Few places may experience heavy to very heavy snow particularly over higher reaches of North Kashmir, central and south Kashmir and Pir Panjal range of Jammu division during March 1 (night) to March 2 (late night),” said MeT director Mukhtar Ahmad, in an update.
