The RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) affiliated student wing, ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad) said on Thursday that it opposes any kind of hike in fees, and supported conducting Student Union elections in Central Universities. The assertion from the ABVP came following the poster launch of its 69th National Conference.

“The ABVP is against the fee hike in any educational institute and firmly believes in right to education… We support that students’ union elections should be conducted in every educational institution and this has been our organisation’s demand since its inception,” ABVP national general secretary Yagywalkya Shukla was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

Notably, in the upcoming national conference of the ABVP, the student organisation will discuss various issues pertaining to the country's youth and educational development, besides several other issues related to students in the country. “The national conference in Delhi will focus on the transformative aspects of the current education sector and highlight topics related to society, youth and education,” Shukla was further reported as saying.

“At this national conference, students, teachers and educationists from across the country will engage in meaningful dialogues, including implementation of the New Education Policy, the students’ union elections and the ABVP’s future plans with respect to these issues,” he further said. The ABVP will hold its 69th National Conference at the DDA Ground in Burari, where the construction of a tent city ‘Indraprastha Nagar’ has already begun. Shukla said that the conference will witness participation of over 10,000 students from across the country.

Earlier, in July this year, the members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) allegedly assaulted the Vice Chancellor and the registrar of the Deen Dayal Upadhyay University in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur. The incident took place over alleged irregularities in the campus and fee hike, as per an Indian Express report. The students' protest took place after the issues raised by the union remained unresolved despite assurances from the VC, as per a Jagran report.
