The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Friday postponed the Joint CSIR-UGC-NET Examination scheduled for June 25 to 27, due to "unavoidable circumstances" and logistic issues. The revised schedule for the exam will be announced later on the official NTA website.

In a statement issued on June 21, the agency said, "NTA postponed the Joint CSIR-UGC-NET Examination June 2024 which was scheduled to be held between June 25 to 27".

"It is being postponed due to unavoidable circumstances as well as logistic issues. The revised schedule for the conduct of this examination will be announced later through the official website," it added.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Education Minister cancelled the UGC-NET- examination, which is held in June and December every year to determine the eligibility of Indian nationals for Junior Research Fellowship, assistant professor positions, and PhD admission in Indian universities and colleges.

The cancellation followed inputs from the National Cyber Crime Threat Analytics Unit of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination (14C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs, suggesting that the integrity of the examination may have been compromised.

Opposition parties, including the Congress, have criticised the Modi government over allegations of irregularities in competitive examinations.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accused the BJP of capturing educational institutions and facilitating these issues. "I have spoken about institutional capture in various organisations. This is happening in the education institutions. This is happening in the education institutions. The reason behind paper leaks is that all the Bice Chancellors and the education system have been captured by the BJP and its parent organisation (RSS)," Gandhi said.

Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, responding to criticism about irregularities in NEET and UGC-NET exam cancellation, announced the formation of a high-level committee. Pradhan stated that upon receiving information from the cyber crime team about questions being available on darknet, a comparison with the original paper confirmed the breach, prompting a CBI investigation and the decision to cancel the exam to maintain its integrity.
