The Ministry of Education on Thursday announced the results of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025, marking the 10th edition of the annual evaluation of higher education institutions across India.

The NIRF Ranking 2025 was released by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Other key attendees included Dr Anil Kumar Nassa, Member Secretary of the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and Dr Sukanta Majumdar, Minister of State for Education.

Reaffirming its dominance in technical education and research, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has once again bagged the No. 1 position in the engineering category. The institute has consistently held the top rank in recent years, consolidating its reputation as the country’s premier hub for innovation and higher learning.

Rankings In Other Categories 

Among state-run public universities, Jadavpur University, Kolkata, has taken the lead this year. For architecture and planning, IIT Roorkee has emerged as the top-ranked institute in the 2025 list.

IIM Ahmedabad has once again maintained its dominance in management education, holding on to its long-standing number one position. In the university category, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, has been named the top institution, as reported by Indian Express.

This year’s rankings covered 17 categories: overall, universities, colleges, research institutions, engineering, management, agriculture and allied fields, open universities, pharmacy, medical, dental, law, skill universities, architecture and planning, state public universities, and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In last year’s rankings, IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay had secured the second and third spots, respectively, in the engineering category.
