What is the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test NEET (UG)?
The National Testing Agency has been conducting the NEET (UG) since 2019 with the approval of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Ministry of Education, in pursuance of the direction of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India.
When was the NEET (UG) – 2024 conducted and the result of the same was declared?
The National Testing Agency conducted the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (UG) for more than 24 lakh candidates at 4750 different Centres located in 571 Cities throughout the country including 14 Cities outside India on 05 May 2024 (Sunday) from 02:00 P.M. to 05:20 P.M.(IST).

Did the candidates get an opportunity to challenge the provisional Answer Keys for the NEET (UG) – 2024?
NTA has adopted a transparent system wherein the scanned copies of OMRs of all the candidates, their responses, Answer Key, and Booklet Code were hosted on the website in the candidates’ login accounts. Candidates were allowed to make challenges from 29 May 2024 to 01 June 2024 (up to 11:00 A.M). The Question Paper and recorded responses (scanned copy of OMR Answer Sheet) along with the Answer Key were displayed on the website for verification by examinees. After verification by the Subject Experts, the Revised/Final Answer Keys were published on the website on 03 June 2024.
What was the role of the Grievance Redressal Committee in giving the Compensatory marks for time loss and why was it done?
Few Writ Petitions were filed by the candidates of NEET (UG) - 2024 before the Hon’ble High Courts for loss of exam time in the NEET (UG) - 2024 exam at few Centres. Accordingly, a Grievance Redressal Committee was formed which considered the grievances/representations based on factual reports of the functionaries and CCTV footage from concerned exam Centres. To compensate for the loss of time, such candidates were compensated with compensatory marks.
How were the Compensatory marks calculated?
The loss of examination time was ascertained and such candidates were compensated with marks based on their answering efficiency and time lost, as per the mechanism/ formula established by the Hon’ble Apex Court, vide its judgment dated 13.06.2018 in W.P. 551 of 2018. 1563 candidates were compensated for the loss of time.
How can any candidate score 718 and 719 marks in the NEET (UG) – 2024?
Due to the compensatory marks, two candidates happened to secure 718 and 719 marks.
Why the Answer Key was changed from one correct option to multiple correct options for a Physics Question?
To evaluate candidates' understanding of nuclear composition and related changes, a specific question was designed for NEET (UG)- 2024 using the NCERT Physics Textbook for Class 12 (Part II). The question included Statement II: "Atoms of most of the elements are stable and emit their characteristic spectrum," making option (Statement I correct, Statement II incorrect) the initially correct answer.
Upon receiving 27,020 answer key challenges, including 13,373for this question, experts reviewed the ambiguity due to differences in the old and new editions of the NCERT textbook. Based on expert opinion, the answer key was updated to reflect that Statement II should be: "Atoms of each element are stable and emit their characteristic spectrum," as per the old textbook.
Consequently, two options were considered correct. This was also done as a policy mentioned in the Information Bulletin of the NEET (UG) – 2024 i.e. “If more than one option
is found to be correct then Four marks (+4) will be awarded to only those who have marked any of the correct options”.
Why did a greater number of candidates get full marks in the NEET (UG) – 2024?
The number of candidates who appeared in 2023 was 20,38,596, while the number of candidates who appeared in 2024 increased to 23,33,297. The increase in candidates naturally led to an increase in high scorers due to a larger pool of candidates. The NTA received 13,373 challenges to the provisional answer key of one question in Physics. Due to the differences in the old and new editions of the NCERT textbook, the Subject Expert(s) held that two options be taken as correct in place of one option for this
Question.
Out of the 67 candidates who got 720/720 marks, 44 are on account of the revision in one Answer Key of Physics, and 06 are on account of compensatory marks for loss of time. This revision led to increased marks for many candidates, contributing to the high number of perfect scores. This led to getting the full marks for 44 candidates in the NEET (UG) – 2024. This adjustment aimed to address inconsistencies in NCERT textbooks, ensuring candidates were not disadvantaged by factual discrepancies.
Is it true that there has been a paper leak in Bihar or Godhra?
It is to be noted that none of the reports are backed with evidence that may indicate a paper leak. These cases seem to be related to cheating/impersonation and not to paper leaks. Further, NTA has its own Security Protocols and Standard Operating Procedures, it has been found that all Question Papers which have been printed have been accounted for, and there is no question of Paper Leak.
NTA has recently received communication from Patna Police regarding the requirement of documents concerning certain candidates. All relevant information and documents have been proactively provided to them. NTA remains committed to fully supporting and assisting all investigations and law enforcement agencies involved in this matter.
Why was the NEET (UG) – 2024 result declared on 04 June 2024 however the result declaration date mentioned in the Information Bulletin was 14 June 2024.
As a policy of the NTA, the result of all NTA examinations including NEET (UG) – 2024 is declared after the Answer Key challenge period. As per our established practice, the timing of the result declaration aligns with our commitment to providing timely results as recommended by the National Medical Commission (NMC) to facilitate prompt counselling and admissions. The result date was pre-scheduled and is not connected to the general election results. The early announcement aims to expedite the counselling and admission process for the benefit of all candidates.
It is important to note that NTA consistently declares examination results within a month, whether conducted in CBT mode or offline mode.
What is the NTA's response to a viral video alleging discrepancies in NEET (UG) - 2024 scoring and the receipt of a torn OMR Answer Sheet via email?
Regarding the viral video featuring a candidate of the NEET (UG) - 2024, claiming discrepancies in NEET (UG) - 2024 scoring and receiving of the torn OMR Answer Sheet, NTA clarifies that no torn OMR Answer Sheet was sent via an official NTA ID. OMR Answer Sheet is intact and Scores are accurate as per official records. Candidates should download Scorecards only from the official website.
