JEE NEET 2020 Exams: In a tweet, BJP leader, Dr. Subramaniam Swamy compared students appearing for JEE/NEET exams in the middle of the pandemic and monsoon to the tragic Jallianwalla Bagh massacre (1919) where thousands of innocent people were gunned down by the British officer General Dyer.


Swamy has been vocal about postponing the JEE and NEET exams which the Supreme Court has allowed to be conducted as per the revised schedule. He tweeted “JEE/ NEET exams in the middle of a galloping COVID-19 infections is like Jallianwala Bagh where innocent were gunned down.”

Today the Supreme Court also heard the review petition seeking reconsideration of SC's decision to hold JEE 2020 and NEET 2020 exams amid the rising cases of Coronavirus in the country filed by Chief Ministers of Non-BJP ruled states.

The NEET and JEE exams were scheduled for July, but the HRD ministry later postponed it to September. According to the revised schedule, the dates of the exams are JEE(Mains)- September 1-6, JEE-advanced- September 27, NEET examination- September 13.

A petition was filed by students in the Supreme Court for the postponement of the exams but it was dismissed by the Apex Court. Later the Education ministry and the National Testing Agency (NTA) also confirmed that the exams will be held according to the schedule.

Despite the backlash, the NTA has begun JEE (Main) exams from September 1st. There were reports from the first day of the exam that said low attendance was recorded from some places. Around 44 per cent of candidates skipped the JEE exams in the Lucknow city and in Ludhiana, only 45.87 percent attempted the test.

In West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee who had also been vocal about postponing the exams said that despite arrangements by the state government only 25 percent of candidates were able to appear for the exams on the second day of the exams. Although subsequent reports have said that attendance picked up from day 2.
