NEET Suicide Case: A 17-year-old medical aspirant allegedly took his own life by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in his rented accommodation, police reported on Thursday. This marks the twelfth suspected suicide by a coaching student in Kota since January, as reported by news agency PTI. In 2023, the number of student suicides in Kota reached 26. Hrishit Kumar Agrawal, a native of Bihar and a Class 12 student, was preparing for NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) at a coaching institute in Kota, according to Dadabari ASI Shambhu Dayal.
Agrawal resided in a rented room in a building in the Chota Chauraha Dadabari area, along with other coaching students.
Around 1 pm on Thursday, other students informed the police after Agrawal did not respond to their knocks. When a police team broke open the door, they found Agrawal hanging from a ceiling fan. No suicide note was recovered from the room, and the body was in a decomposed state, suggesting he may have taken his life on Wednesday.
Agrawal had been preparing for the medical college entrance exam and receiving coaching in Kota for the past two years, according to Dadabari circle inspector Naresh Kumar Meena. The boy’s parents have been informed, and the body has been sent to MBS Hospital for a post-mortem, which will be conducted after his parents' arrival.
