New Delhi: An accused of the 2019 Pulwama terror attack, Waiz-Ul-Islam, has filed a bail application in the special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court to appear in the upcoming National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2020 exams which are to be held from September 13.

The bail plea which is set to be heard on September 3, is being opposed by the NIA

"Accused Waiz-Ul-Islam (in Pulwama terror attack case) has filed an application for bail as he wants to appear for NEET exams. Bail listed for 3rd September. We are opposing this application,” said NIA counsel Vipin Kalra, Jammu, to the news agency ANI.

After months of delay due to the coronavirus pandemic, this year the National Testing Agency is conducting the NEET exams on September 13 and the admit cards for the same were made available from August 26.

The Pulwama terror attack is considered to be one of the deadliest in recent times. Around 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel lost their lives when a vehicle-borne suicide bomber attacked a convoy carrying security personnel on the Jammu Srinagar National Highway.

Waiz-Ul-Islam was arrested in March this year for his involvement in the terror attack. According to a report by PTI, Islam who was 19 at the time of his arrest had allegedly used his Amazon online shopping account to procure chemicals for making IEDs, batteries, and other accessories. He provided these to Pakistani Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorists.
