The Assam Cabinet has decided to make public the findings of a committee that investigated alleged anomalies and malpractices in the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) civil service recruitment exams during the previous Congress regime, as reported by news agency PTI. The committee, headed by Justice (Retd) BK Sarma, examined the conduct of the 2013 and 2014 Combined Competitive Examinations (CEE) and identified significant irregularities.
Sarma announced that the findings, revealing extensive corruption and malpractices, would be presented in the Assam Legislative Assembly to ensure transparency. He shared this information on X, emphasizing that these revelations were in the public's best interest.
In other key decisions, the Cabinet approved a project to provide round-the-clock water supply to the Tata semiconductor plant in Jagiroad, with a total project cost of Rs 121.36 crore, and expected completion by July 2025. The water will be sourced from the Kopili River, supplying 12.5 million litres per day.
Additionally, the Cabinet greenlighted the procurement of 200 MW of power from the Kalai II Hydro Electric Project to address Assam's growing energy needs. The levelised tariff of Rs 5.46 per unit is lower than the state's average power purchase cost.
The council also approved renaming ‘sub-districts’ as ‘co-districts’, effective from October 4, and the appointment of 'co-district commissioners'.
Moreover, under the Banikanta Kakati Merit Award of the Pragyan Bharati Scheme, 48,673 students will receive scooters in 2024. Female students scoring 60% and above in Class 12, and male students scoring 75% and above, will be eligible for this award. The initiative will cost Rs 345.74 crore.
