Kolkata: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur has commenced its 2024-25 placement season and within three days of the Phase-I placement process, which began on December 1, the institute secured over 1,000 placement offers by December 3, 2024.


By the end of Day 2, IIT Kharagpur had already received over 800 offers, including pre-placement offers (PPOs) from top organizations worldwide. Several companies that conducted internships on campus earlier in July 2024 returned to participate in the placement drive, extending full-time offers to students based on their internship performances.


The placement interviews are being conducted in a hybrid mode, with many organizations choosing in-person interactions to engage with students directly.


Leading companies from various sectors like high-frequency trading, software, analytics, finance, banking and consulting firms extended “lucrative roles to IIT Kharagpur students”, the statement said.


It said this year, the campus witnessed a handful of core engineering companies in the early phase of placement, “which is remarkable”.


"The students have shown tremendous precision and tenacity to compete in the present job market and career opportunities,” Institute Director Prof V K Tewari said.


"I am equally grateful to all the companies and organisations, who believed in the merits and capabilities of our students and encouraged them," he said.


Twenty international offers have been secured by the students so far, the statement said.

By the end of Day 2, the highest package reached Rs 2.14 crore. Additionally, nine students have secured offers with salary packages exceeding Rs 1 crore, spanning diverse sectors such as software, analytics, consulting, and core engineering roles.


Notably, the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT Kharagpur), the oldest and biggest of all IITs was established in 1951 on the blessed land of Hijli in the district of Medinipur, West Bengal. On September 15, 1956, the Parliament of India passed the Indian Institute of Technology (Kharagpur) Act declaring IIT Kharagpur as an institute of national importance. The institute was also given the status of an autonomous university.
