Dropped Syllabus Of Classes 9 To 12 Restored For AY 2021-22; CBSE Warns About ‘Fake’ Exam Schedule

The newly released syllabus has restored the chapters and topics that were reduced in the last academic year for the upcoming academic session, 2021-22.

Here is an important update for students of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) board who are already facing the wrath of the pandemic with prolonged closure of schools. The CBSE has decided not to reduce the syllabus for students of classes 9 to 12 for the academic year 2021-22, according to the new curriculum.

What is not going to change?

Last year, the syllabus for classes 9 to 12 for the academic year 2020-21 was reduced by up to 30 per cent in order to ease the course load of students in the wake of Covid-19 crisis. Those who studied the reduced syllabus will now appear for exams in May-June.

However, according to the new syllabus released by the CBSE, the chapters and topics that were reduced in the last academic year have been restored in the official curriculum for the upcoming academic session, 2021-22.

In fact, at the time of slashing the syllabus the board has clarified that the rationalisation exercise was a one-time initiative as teaching and learning through online mediums or alternative methods was fairly new then, as per the news agency PTI.

Under the syllabus-rationalisation exercise, the board had skipped the chapters on democracy and diversity, demonetisation, nationalism, secularism, India's relations with its neighbours, and growth of local governments in the country, among others.

It is to be noted that the choice of the chapters dropped from the syllabus also caused backlash from opposition political parties including a section of academicians, who claimed that the move was "ideologically driven". On the other hand, several school principals welcomed the move as a relief for school students.

Meanwhile, the board clarified on the micro-blogging platform regarding the fake CBSE classes 10, 12 exam schedule being circulated on social media. The fake circular has tweaked the last year’s exam circular, informed the board. CBSE will conduct board exams as scheduled from May 4 to June 10.

The board advised students to ignore the circular. “There are some persons deliberately trying to create confusion about this year’s board exams by circulating old news of 1.4.20 regarding 10th and 12th exams. Students should ignore this old circular of last year and not be misled. Board has not issued any such information,” CBSE official said.
