New Delhi: The Delhi University on Thursday announced its decision to not hold exams for the first and second-year students.
DU released a statement where the university said that "conducting examinations for Intermediate Semester/Term/Year students in the conventional mode i.e. pen and paper is not feasible as per the existing government norms of maintaining social distancing and safety and health of the students."
Hence, it is going for an alternate method of assessment as a one-time measure. The students will instead be ranked on the basis of their previous scores and internal assessment.
Students will have to submit assignments or tests for internal assessment, which will carry 50% weightage. The rest 50% factors in their scores in their previous semester/term/year.
"The grading of the students could be composite of 50% marks on the basis of the pattern of internal evaluation/assignment based evaluation adopted by the university/colleges/faculty/centre wherever applicable and the remaining 50% marks can be awarded on the basis of performance in previous semester/term/year only."
Students who are in their first semester will be graded entirely on the basis of their assignments as they do not have any previous records to show.
“For students of intermediate semester/term/year, having no previous performance i.e. having no marks in previous semester/term /year shall be graded on the basis of 100% assignment based evaluation,” the notice stated.
Meanwhile, students in their final year and ex-students in the second year will be required to sit for the online open-book exams, scheduled to be conducted in July.
