New Delhi: The Delhi University has allocated a budget of Rs 67.71 crore to establish a WiFi network across all its college campuses and within an upcoming girls' hostel in northwest Delhi's Mukherjee Nagar, according to an official document. The document specifies that the WiFi (Wireless Fidelity) connectivity will be extended to around 90 colleges of Delhi University, encompassing both the north and south campuses, as well as the Dhaka Hostel complex.

The execution of the proposed work will be financed from the loan corpus amounting to Rs 938.33 crore secured by the university from the Higher Education Financing Agency (HEFA) in October of the previous year, as reported by PTI. This loan corpus is designated for various developmental endeavors.

A portion of Rs 261.33 crore from this corpus has been authorised by HEFA for the establishment of the WiFi network, along with the commencement of construction for a building designated for the Faculty of Technology.

HEFA, a collaborative initiative between Canara Bank and the Ministry of Education, extends financial support for the enhancement of educational infrastructure and research facilities within India's leading educational institutions.

In 2022, Delhi University submitted an application for a HEFA loan to address its infrastructural requirements and expansion initiatives, including the establishment of DU's east Delhi campus in Surajmal Vihar and the inauguration of a new college in Najafgarh, among other projects.

Additionally, the agency has given its nod to proposals for five other projects to receive funding from the HEFA loan, with work slated to commence as soon as the funds are sanctioned.
