New Delhi: After the 12th board results, the volume of applications for Delhi University (DU) is high. This is why it gets difficult for students to make the high cut-off list and merit list at DU.
Recently, the University of Delhi said that it might think about the process of taking entrance exams for admissions. Now, it is also planning to introduce a 50-50 formula for admission in under-graduate (UG) courses of Delhi University from next year.
What is the 50-50 formula?
The Delhi University formula will include 50-50 weightage to board and entrance exam during the undergraduate admissions next year. Overall, students should be admitted by combining the performance of their board examinations and the performance in the entrance test examination.
Based on this 50-50 ratio, Delhi University may start this process of enrolling in undergraduate courses from next year. It may be noted that this is still under discussion.
Admission on a cut-off basis: The enrolment to UG courses in Delhi University is currently based on a cut-off basis. This time the merit list of some colleges went up to 100%. Most students can't reach such a high merit list. Boards play an important role as well. Some boards have very strict marking. It becomes very difficult for such students to get admission to Delhi University. Considering many such aspects, consultations are underway to change the way admissions are done for UG courses at Delhi University.
Various Methods For Admission:
According to media reports, Delhi University is considering several options to undertaking the admission process. The first option is to keep the system running the same way. The second could be normalisation of the marks of various boards. The third is to take an entrance test for admission to UG courses and the fourth and last option is to give 50 percent weightage to the entrance test and 50 percent to board marks.
The Academic Council is considering and analyzing the best option. It remains to be seen what option is chosen for admission to UG courses of Delhi University from next year.
