NEET 2019: Cyclone Fani has created a state of total ruckus in the east coastal belt of the country. Leaving trees uprooted, property devastated and three people dead in Odisha, the disastrous Cyclone is fast moving towards West Bengal. 157 trains and several flights have been cancelled. Thousands have been evacuated from the high-risk zones.

Amidst all this mayhem, for which a closure seems distant as of now, students of NSUI, Goa have requested the President, Prime Minister and the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) to postpone the National Eligibility cum Entrance Exam (NEET) 2019.

As per the letter sent by National Students' Union of India (NSUI), Goa, the highly competitive national level exam takes around two years preparation for candidates aspiring admissions to MBBS/BDS courses.

Given the current scenario, wherein even power supply has been cut in the coastal belt of East India, NSUI has requested the stakeholders to postpone NEET 2019, otherwise, slated to be held on Sunday, 5th May 2019.

On the other hand, the AIIMS PG 2019 Exam in Bhubaneswar has been cancelled until further notice, in the wake of Cyclone Fani. AIIMS PG 2019 was also scheduled to be held on Sunday, 5th May 2019 for medical graduates aspiring to pursue Postgraduate MD/MS/M.Ch.(6yrs)/DM(6yrs)/MDS courses for July 2019 intake.

The Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Preeti Sudan, affirmed, “AIIMS PG exam is scheduled on 5th May. Due to cyclone Fani, AIIMS Delhi is cancelling the exam centre in Bhubaneswar. Another exam will be conducted for students affected by this cancellation as soon as normalcy returns.”
