Darbhanga: Bihar Police arrested 12 individuals, including two women, for allegedly participating in the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET)-2024 and taking the exam on behalf of others at various examination centers in Darbhanga district, according to authorities, as reported by news agency PTI.


Darbhanga SSP Jagunath Reddy informed reporters on Sunday that nine arrests were made from centers under Laheriasarai police station's jurisdiction, two from a center under Sadar police station, and one from a center under Bahadurpur police station. The impersonation was uncovered through biometric fingerprint scans of candidates at the examination centers, police reported.


Police took action following complaints lodged by invigilators and administrators. Cases have been filed against the impersonators, who are currently being interrogated. Police are also gathering information regarding the genuine candidates involved.


Sources indicated that police are probing potential links between the arrested individuals and interstate cheating syndicates.


CTET 2024 July session exam was conducted on July 7, 2024. The exam was conducted in two shifts, first from 9:30 am to 12 pm, and shift 2 from 2 pm to 4:30 pm. The duration for each shift was 2:30 hours. The CTET is an annual national-level examination for individuals aspiring to secure teaching positions in the government sector.

According to the NCTE guidelines dated August 23, 2010, and July 29, 2011, a candidate must pass the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) or CTET to qualify for a teaching appointment. After clearing the CTET exam, candidates become eligible to apply for teaching positions in various private and government schools, including:


- Central Government schools such as KVS, NVS, Central Tibetan Schools, etc.
- Schools under the administrative control of Union Territories like Delhi, Chandigarh, Daman & Diu, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, and Lakshadweep.
- Private schools that recognize the CTET qualification.
- Schools owned by State Governments and local bodies.
