Coronavirus Outbreak: HRD Ministry Asks Leading Institutes To Postpone Application Deadlines; Check Details

Human Resource Department (HRD) Ministry on Monday directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to postpone the deadline of acceptance of applications for multiple exams conducted by it.

New Delhi: With significant rise in number of Coronavirus cases across the country and the imposed lockdown, Union Human Resource Department (HRD) Ministry on Monday directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to postpone the deadline of acceptance of applications for multiple exams conducted by it, including UGC NET and JNU entrance test and others.

According to reports, HRD minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' has asked NTA to postpone the last date of application forms for the ICAR Exam, JNU Entrance Exam, UGC NET, CSIR NET, NCHM JEE, IGNOU PhD and Management Entrance Exams.


"To enable students to fill up their application forms during these testing times, I have advised @DG_NTA to postpone the last date of acceptance of applications of ICAR Exam, JNU Entrance Exam, UGC NET, CSIR NET, NCHM JEE, IGNOU PhD and Management Entrance Exams by 1 month,"  he tweeted.


Keeping in mind the nationwide lockdown imposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, JNU Vice Chancellor on Monday informed that the varsity has decided to postpone the application dates for the entrance exam.

"The application deadline for JNUEE will be extended and students can make use of this extended time to fill up the application form and prepare for JNUEE. Wish all the JNU aspirants good luck," VC Jagadesh Kumar Mamidala said in a tweet.


Last week, the Union HRD Ministry has also postponed the national medical entrance exam, NEET, in view of the countrywide lockdown due to the coronavirus outbreak. The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), whose marks are used for admission in colleges across the country, was scheduled for May 3.

Earlier, Pokhriyal had said the decision has been taken to avoid any inconvenience to students and parents who have to travel to different centres across the country to write the exam.

NTA has also decided to postpone the ensuing NEET (UG) and JEE (Main) May 2020 examinations. The NTA, in a statement, said: "As of now the examination is proposed to be held in the last week of May 2020. Exact date will be announced later on after assessing the situation."

Accordingly, the admit cards for the examination which were to be issued on March 27 will now be issued later on after assessing the situation after April 15, NTA has notified. Meanwhile the HRD Minister has requested students to utilise the extra time to study for examinations.
