Rajnandgaon: A 21-year-old woman medical student allegedly committed suicide at the hostel of the Bharat Ratna Late Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical College in Rajnandgaon city of Chhattisgarh on Thursday, news agency PTI quoted police as saying.


Kesar Godara, a final year of MBBS student hailing from Bikaner in Rajasthan, was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her room, said Navratan Kashyap, station house officer, Lalbag police station.


"No suicide note was found at the spot and further investigation was underway," he added.


Dean of the medical college Dr Renuka Gahine said Godara's friends went to check on her as she did not turn up for an internal examination. They raised alarm when she did not open the door despite repeated knocks and shouting.


A guard peeked through the window and found her hanging, following which police were alerted, the dean said.

Earlier on July 4, a 16-year-old engineering aspirant died by suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in his PG accommodation in Kota, Rajasthan.


The victim, Sandeep Kumar Kurmi, originally from Nalanda district in Bihar, had been enrolled in a coaching institute for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) in Kota for the past two years. He resided in a paying guest (PG) room in Mahaveer Nagar-III, Kota district, according to police statements quoted by PTI.


On Thursday, around 7 am, a classmate visited Kurmi's room. When there was no response, the classmate peeped through the window and found Kurmi hanging from the ceiling fan, said Mahaveer Nagar SHO Mahendra Maru.


The classmate alerted the PG caretaker, who then informed the police. SHO Maru mentioned that the suicide occurred between the night of July 3 and the morning of July 4, with no suicide note found at the scene.
