Bhagalpur: A Class 10 student allegedly died by suicide after shooting himself with his father's licensed revolver at their residence in Bihar's Bhagalpur district on Sunday, as reported by news agency PTI.
The deceased, identified as 14-year-old Somil Raj, was the son of Rajeev Kumar Singh. According to family members, he was reportedly upset about his performance in the half-yearly examinations, a senior police officer said.
The tragic incident occurred at Anand Vihar Colony under the jurisdiction of Kahalgaon Police Station.
Speaking to reporters, Kahalgaon Police Station SHO Dev Guru said, "A police team reached the spot upon receiving the information and sent the body for a post-mortem examination. The revolver and the deceased's mobile phone have been seized. An investigation is underway."
"Prima facie, it appears to be a case of suicide. Preliminary investigations suggest that before taking the extreme step, the boy sent messages to his friends indicating his intention to end his life. The family told police he was unhappy with his marks in the half-yearly exams, particularly in three subjects where he scored less than 50 percent. The matter is being thoroughly examined," the SHO added.
