Bengaluru: Schools in Bengaluru Urban district remain shut today following heavy rain. Due to continuous rains in Bengaluru, the Meteorological Department issued an orange alert on Tuesday for the next two days.

"As a precautionary measure in the interest of students, all taluk Anganwadi centres, private/aided primary and high schools of Bengaluru City will be closed on Wednesday," a government order stated.

Incessant rains since early Tuesday have disrupted normal life in central and southern Karnataka, particularly in Bengaluru, where several areas experienced water-logging and heavy traffic snarls.

Commuters, especially students and office-goers, faced significant challenges in Bengaluru due to the rain-induced road congestion.

Karnataka's Revenue Minister, Krishna Byre Gowda, stated that personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been deployed in the city following forecasts of more rain. He also noted that Fire and Emergency Services are on standby to ensure a swift response to any emergencies.

"I have advised BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) to remain on high alert. We’ve already deployed around 60 NDRF/SDRF personnel in Bengaluru, with another 40 on standby. Fire and Emergency Services are also ready to respond," the minister shared in a social media post.

Meanwhile, Bengaluru's civic body, BBMP, assured residents that a flood management team is prepared to respond promptly. In a statement, BBMP said, "The following areas experienced rainfall throughout the day, and further rain is predicted until 8 a.m. on 16/10/2024. BBMP’s flood management systems are fully operational, and we are addressing affected areas."

The civic body also urged Bengaluru residents to limit outdoor activities unless absolutely necessary. "We urge the citizens in these areas to step out only if needed and exercise caution," BBMP added in its advisory.

Notably, the continuous rainfall has severely impacted normal activities in many parts of Karnataka, including Bengaluru.
