The Supreme Court on Monday directed the formation of a Selection Committee for the appointment of two pro tem members of the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC). According to ANI, the apex court said the Selection Committee shall have Justice (retd.) Jayant Nath current pro tem Chairman, Justice (retd.) Ramesh Ranganathan, Chairman APTEL and Justice (retd.) Asha Menon.

The court said the selection committee shall recommend two names for each position with regard to their ability, integrity and domain knowledge preferably within one month. It added that the names should be sent to the LG and the Delhi Chief Minister and the appointment shall be made thereafter.

According to Bar and Bench, CJI Chandrachud said the panel shall be at liberty to formulate its own procedure for appointment.

"The power dept GNCTD shall provide secretarial assistance to the committee. The meeting can be conducted physically or virtually. The selection committee shall give two names for each position with regard to their ability, integrity and domain knowledge. The committee is requested to recommend the names within one month of this order. The names to be sent to the LG and the Delhi CM and the appointment shall be made thereafter," the website quoted the CJI as saying.

The top court in August this year had appointed Justice Jayant Nath, a former Delhi High Court judge, as the temporary head of the DERC. Delivering the order, the bench has said it could pick anyone for the post.
