Piyush Pal, a 30-year-old documentary maker was left lying in a severely injured state in Delhi's Panchsheel Enclave area after he met with an accident on Saturday. Pal was riding a motorcycle when another bike collided with his bike. After the incident, police reached the accident spot and rushed both Pal and the other rider, Bunty (26), to different hospitals. Pal succumbed to his injuries at the hospital while undergoing treatment. He is survived by his father, mother and sister, reported news agency PTI.
According to the CCTV footage, when Pal was changing lanes, another motorcycle hit him from behind. The crash resulted in Pal losing control of the wheels and then being dragged for a few metres on the street along with his motorcycle. The accident took place around 10 pm on Saturday.
The police have registered a case under IPC Sections 279 (rash driving) and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life) at the Hauz Khas police station.
“We received information about Pal’s death around 6 p.m. on Tuesday. His post-mortem was conducted a day later, after which the body was handed over to his relatives,” a senior police official said, adding that further investigation in the case is under way.
A friend of the deceased alleged that Pal could've been saved if the passersby had helped him rather than standing there to capture photos and videos. He alleged that not one of the passersby helped the 30-year-old and he was left bleeding on the side of the road for over 20 minutes. He added that Pal's mobile phone and Go-Pro camera were also stolen.
Pal's friend said, "His mobile phone was ringing till 10 pm, but later on it was switched off. A Go-Pro camera, which he used for recording videos for his work purpose, is also missing. We are not looking for any compensation from anyone, we only want justice."
