Patient With JN.1 Discharged, No Omicron Sub-Variant Case In Delhi Now: Minister Bharadwaj

Bharadwaj said that there are no patients of JN.1 variant in Delhi currently.

Covid-19 Update: Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj said on Thursday that the first patient with the JN.1 Sub-Variant of Omicron variant in the national capital has been discharged from Hospital and she is healthy now. He further stated that there are no patients of JN.1 variant in Delhi currently. Speking to ANI on the first case of JN.1, Bharadwaj said that the new variant is mild and people are not getting severely ill because of this. 

"We have increased the number of tests. Yesterday we performed 636 tests in private and govt hospitals. 3 genome sequencing results were received yesterday, out of which two were old Omicron variants and one was JN.1. The new variant is mild and people are not getting severely ill because of this. The patient with the JN.1 variant has already been discharged from the hospital and she is healthy now. We can say that there are no patients of JN.1 variant in Delhi currently," Bharadwaj said, as quoted by ANI. 

On Wednesday, the Delhi's Health Minister had said that the city had reported its first case of COVID-19 sub-variant JN.1, Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj said on Wednesday and appealed to people not to panic.

According to an official, three samples were sent for genome sequencing, and one of them tested positive for the JN.1 variant while the remaining two were Omicron.

While confirming the first case of the JN.1 variant in Delhi, Bharadwaj said, "JN.1 is a sub-variant of Omicron and is mild infection. This is the one spreading in south India. There is no need to panic. It causes mild sickness," as quoted by news agency PTI.

Another official, while giving more details of the first JN.1 case, said the patient was a 52-year-old woman, who was admitted to a hospital three to four weeks ago.

"She was admitted for mild symptoms. She had cough and upper respiratory infection. She did not require oxygen support and there was no involvement of lungs. Initially, we thought that she had flu but she tested positive for Covid. She was discharged within a few days," the second official told PTI.
