Four members of a family died due to suspected suffocation after a fire broke out at their home in Dwarka's Prem Nagar area in the small hours of Tuesday. According to PTI, a Delhi Fire Services (DFS) official said on Tuesday that they got a call regarding the fire around 3.30 am, following which two fire tenders were pressed into service.
The DFS official said the fire started in an inverter and spread to an adjacent sofa on the first floor of the family's two-storey home, leading to the four victims inhaling smoke.
When the firefighters arrived, the main gate was locked from inside, and they had to break down the door to get inside. The four family members were rushed to the Rao Tularam Memorial Hospital, but declared dead.
The deceased were identified as Heera Singh Kakkar, 48, his wife Neetu, 40 and their sons Robin, 22 and Lakshay, 21. The police told PTI that Kakkar was a photographer by profession and the house was owned by the family.
One Family Member Survives
Heera Singh Kakkar’s mother Sita Devi was also in the house but was unharmed as she was sleeping on the ground floor of the building.
The fire was doused within a few minutes but there was a lot of smoke inside the house.
The bodies of the deceased were moved to a mortuary for an autopsy. A case has been registered under relevant sections and a probe is underway.

On Monday, three people were injured in a fire caused by an LPG cylinder explosion inside a residential building in Delhi's Uttam Nagar area. The incident took place around 2.30 pm in Uttam Nagar's Sanjay Enclave.
After about 2 hours, the fire was completely controlled.
The three people injured were rushed to Safdurjung Hospital. While one of them was admitted to the hospital, the other two were discharged after being administered primary care.
