Delhi's smog tower installed at Connaught Place is locked up once again. As per reports, the person responsible for its operation has locked it over a 'delay' in salary, reported news agency ANI. Delhi Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj while taking a jibe at the Centre over this issue said that officials are not following the orders of ministers because they know no actions will be taken against them. Bharadwaj added that this mismanagement was deliberately being spread by the Centre.

This is not the first time, earlier at the onset of winter, the smog tower was shut for some time and was only made operational after the Supreme Court's order.

Delhi Minister and AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj told ANI, "Today all powers have been given to a few officials and now they are working as per their wish. First, they closed the smog tower but when the court scolded them, the smog tower was made operational. Now, I don't know under what circumstances it has been closed. Officials are not following the orders of ministers because they know that no action will be taken against them. I think this mismanagement is being deliberately spread by the central government."

The smog tower has been shut at a very crucial time when the national capital is not only battling with high levels of pollutants in the air but also dealing with a dense layer of fog engulfing the skyline each morning. A dip in mercury when mixed with high pollution results in a thick layer of fog/smog covering the city like a blanket.
