An accident occurred on Saturday when a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) low-floor electric bus collided with more than a dozen vehicles in Rohini South, resulting in the loss of one life. The event unfolded around 2.45 pm near Vishram Chowk in Awantika. There were no passengers on the bus when the accident transpired, news agency PTI reported. According to the police, the bus initially collided with a car and subsequently struck an e-rickshaw, along with several two-wheelers parked along the roadside.

The bus driver, identified as Sandeep Kumar, was apprehended at the scene. Kumar informed the police that he had experienced a seizure due to epilepsy, a neurological condition.

The incident was captured by multiple CCTV cameras, revealing the bus making contact with various vehicles one after the other. Some of the two-wheelers parked by the road were severely damaged, with a fatality occurring instantly, while another individual sustained injuries.

The deceased individual has yet to be identified, while the injured party, identified as Ram Sharma, a resident of Rohini Sector 3, was promptly transported to the hospital due to a head injury, according to PTI.

After completing passenger drop-offs in Rohini, Kumar was en route to the depot when the accident took place. His medical examination confirmed the presence of epilepsy, as he had stated, PTI reported the police account as revealing. In response to the incident, the Transport Department of the Delhi government issued a statement expressing their deep regret and sympathy for the affected family.

The statement explained that the driver had suddenly lost consciousness, resulting in the loss of control over the bus and the subsequent collision with vehicles parked on the left side of the road. The Delhi government assured that it was firmly supporting the grieving family and reiterated its commitment to safety procedures aimed at ensuring secure and hassle-free travel within the city.

The police stated that this incident marks the first fatal crash involving an electric low-floor DTC bus since its introduction into the city's public transport fleet. A detailed investigation is ongoing, and the bus driver's statement has been recorded to verify the sequence of events.

Authorities are working with local intelligence to ascertain the identity of the deceased. It was reported that the victim, believed to be a rag-picker, was in the process of crossing the road when the accident occurred. The Rohini South police station has registered a case in connection with the incident, and further inquiries are underway, PTI reported.
