An e-rickshaw driver died on Saturday after his vehicle was allegedly hit by a car driven by a drunk officer of the Delhi Police in west Delhi's Mayapuri area, said the officials as per a PTI report. Following the incident, locals held a protest outside Mayapuri police station blocking the road and demanding action against the officer, they said. 


Sagarpur resident Amit Jha was critically injured in the accident, said the police officer, adding that he was admitted in the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, where he died during treatment, according to the report. 


"The errant driver Mukesh Kumar was under the influence of alcohol. He is posted with the Delhi Traffic Police unit and lives in the Mayapuri police station barrack," the officer said.

Kumar has been booked under sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code.


The police officer underwent a medical examination and was arrested, said an officer that hi traffic unit has been informed for further action, the report said. 


On Friday, a head constable of the Delhi Police was injured after he was allegedly assaulted by four men after he stopped their two-wheeler to check its documents at a police booth in the South Extension Part-II area, according to the police.

Head constable Kuldeep was posted at south Delhi's Hauz Khas police station and suffered critical injuries to his face and was admitted in a hospital. 


The rider, Chayank Seelelan alias Addi (22), was later caught by Head Constable Mukesh and further legal action will be taken against the accused, said the police, as per another PTI report.
