New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered a preliminary inquiry into the alleged irregularities and misconduct with respect to the construction of a new official residence for Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, news agency PTI quoted CBI officials as saying.

The inquiry has been registered against unidentified public servants of the Delhi government, the report stated.

According to the CBI officials, the anti-corruption branch of the central probe agency has asked for all the Public Works Department (PWD) records related to the approval and recommendation of its officials for the alteration, tender documents, bids submitted by the contractors, approval of the building plans and requests from the client for specifications such as modular kitchen, marble flooring and other ornamental work, PTI reported.

If the preliminary investigation reveals a prima facie case, then the probe agency will register a regular FIR, PTI quoted the CBI officials as saying.

Reacting to the development, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) accused the BJP of "using all its strength to destroy the AAP..."

"Today, across the entire country, only the Aam Aadmi Party is seeking votes by doing excellent work in the fields of education and healthcare. However, the BJP does not want the poor to have access to quality education and superior healthcare facilities because that would defeat their politics of religion and caste. This is why they have imprisoned Delhi's finest Education and Health Ministers, Manish Sisodia and Satyendra Jain," the AAP said in a statement.

"So far BJP has filed over 50 cases against Kejriwal ji…nothing came out in any of them and nothing will come out of this. No matter how much investigation the BJP does, Arvind Kejriwal will continue to fight for the interests of the common man. Kejriwal has sworn he will make India No 1 in the world and he is ready to pay any price for this," the party added in its statement.

Notably, the BJP has been up in arms against the Kejriwal government ever since the matter surfaced a few months back. The saffron party also mocked the AAP supremo saying he has built himself a “sheesh mahal”.
