While Delhi-NCR is still reeling from the tragedy of a woman being dragged for about 14 kilometres by a car on New Year's Day, CCTV footage from Haryana's Gurugram has emerged showing a man striking a woman with a helmet. When the woman refused to ride with him on his bike, he resorted to violence, according to police.

"A man named Kamal thrashed a woman in the neighbourhood with a helmet after she refused to travel with him on his bike," ACP Manoj K, Gurugram, was reported by news agency ANI as saying. "The woman was severely injured, and was rushed to a hospital. A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed under various sections of the IPC (Indian Penal Code). Further probe is underway," he further added.

The incident is captured on CCTV, and it shows a man on a bike stopping close to an auto rickshaw from which a woman emerges. The man slaps the woman with his helmet after a brief interaction.

When the auto-rickshaw driver intervenes, the woman retaliates with her handbag. More others rush to the scene and push Kamal, the accused, away from the woman.

While the man, in this case, appeared to know the woman, a shocking incident occurred on Sunday in Sultanpuri, Delhi, when a 20-year-old woman was struck by a car while riding a scooter in the early hours. According to reports, the men in the car were inebriated and did not know the woman.

She was then dragged by the car for 14 kilometres before dying. Her naked body was discovered afterwards. So far, seven people have been arrested in the case, and police officers on duty in the vicinity have been accused of incompetence.
