A 13-year-old girl and her younger brother were found dead at their father’s shop in northwest Delhi’s Keshav Puram on Saturday. According to news reports, the father, Manish, who is suspected of committing the gruesome act has been absconding. The police have said that efforts are on to nab him.

Family Discovers The Children

At 7:15 PM, the police received a call regarding the incident. The wife told the police that the children did not return from school that day. She added that, initially, she thought that Manish must have picked them up, as he often would. But when she tried to contact him, his phone was unreachable, the PTI reported.

In the evening when other family members opened the shutters, they discovered the bodies of the children.

"She tried to contact Manish but his mobile phone was not reachable. In the evening, when other family members opened the shutter of their shop, they found the two siblings lying inside in an unconscious condition," an officer told PTI.

Children Were Declared Dead

The siblings were rushed to the hospital, where the doctors declared them dead. The police officer said that their school bags were also lying inside the shop, which is located on the ground floor of their house. The police officer said that Manish must have killed the children by giving them some sort of poisonous substance or smothered them to death.

"The matter is being investigated from all possible angles and the bodies have been sent for post-mortem," the officer said. However, the actual cause of death can only be ascertained after the report of the post-mortem comes.

As per the report, while the motive remains unclear, it was found that Manish was upset due to some financial issues, further probe is underway. The statements of the family members have been taken, police said. In order to locate Manish, the CCTV footage from the area is being scanned thoroughly.
