A 44-year-old man was arrested for raping an 18-month-old toddler at a temple in the village in Jansa area of Varanasi on Thursday.


According to a report in The Times Of India, an FIR was lodged immediately after the police received information about the incident and a massive manhunt was lodged. The accused, identified as Dilip Kumar Dubey of Kaparforva village, was arrested from the Dehli Vinayak area on Friday and sent to jail.


The investigation has been fast-tracked in this case to ensure his early conviction, he added.


Odisha Rape Case


A 46-year-old man was arrested for the rape and murder of a nine-year-old tribal girl in Odisha’s Balasore. The girl, who has been missing since August 27, was found deceased in an abandoned house on August 30, with her body in a decomposed state, as per a PTI report.


Accused Rabi Singh was arrested on Saturday and has been charged under various sections related to rape and murder, including sections 103, 165, 4(2) of the BNS Act, and POCSO Act, Kulu said, adding that he has been remanded to judicial custody for 14 days.


During the investigation, it was revealed that the accused was a friend of the victim’s father and he had slept at their home before the day of the crime. The following morning he took the child out for snacks and brought her to an abandoned house where he raped her and later, smashed he head with a concrete slab.


BJD president and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik raised the issue in the assembly on Saturday, criticising the current government's handling of crimes.


“All major crimes, including this latest case, should be informed to the chief minister, who is also the home minister. This is a serious matter which never occurred during my government's tenure," Patnaik said, according to PTI.
